THE VIRTANEN-INTERVIEW
Wednesday, October 17th 2007
Source: svt.se & BWO FanClub

On October 18th we published this following 3 videos, where BWO was guests in the swedish TV-Show "Studio Virtanen". Marina, Martin and Alexander answers
the moderator a lot of questions and we give you all now the chance to understands the answers (and of course the questions!). Here comes the translation of the complete interview:

"STUDIO VIRTANEN" WITH BWO - CLIP #1

Virtanen: BWO are here to sing. BWO stands for – as everyone knows – Bertil, Wolfgang und Olga! Is that correct?
Alexander: We sometimes says Bard, Wiptjenko and Olinski…
Virtanen: Alexander Bard, Marina Schiptjenko, and Martin Rolinski. I read in the paper
today that you are going to participate in “Melodifestivalen” again, congratulations!

BWO: Thanks!
Alexander: Did it say “The diva’s battle”?
Virtanen: Exactly…
Alexander: They forgot Marina, how can they forget the biggest diva of them all?
Virtanen: In the 90’s, “Arvingarna” participated in three “Melodifestivalen”. Then the TV viewers think, “Are BWO the 00’s “Arvingarna”? As you’ll do three in a row.
Martin: We have always thought that we are “00’s Arvingarna”…
Alexander: We haven’t done three in a row… We didn’t participate this year.
Virtanen: Will you be able to participate in “Melodifestivalen” without conceding your career?
Marina: We started the fashion, I think.
Alexander:  I don’t think “The Ark” would have participated in the competition, if we hadn’t been there last year.
Virtanen: You are keen at taking credits of things! I think it was all because of Christer Björkman.
Martin: If you do pop, it’s thankful to do that, if you feel it’s the right thing. We sent a song we liked, and didn’t have a thought of it would be selected.
Virtanen: I don’t believe in you, I have noticed you have help from Bobby Ljunggren to win in the end. Alex, how did you met?
Alexander: We’ve known each other for years.
Virtanen: How?
Alexander: Why are we talking about this now? It’s not topicality until February 2008! We’ll not sing a schlager here today; you have to wait six months…
Virtanen: Do you want Carola to participate, so you can kick her ass?
Alexander: I damn think so…
Marina: An eager situation.
Virtanen: Martina, what’s your opinion about Carola?
Marina: I’m not a fan… I don’t like Carola as an artist and her opinions. I don’t like that kind of Christianity.
Virtanen: Alexander, what do you think about Carola?
Alexander: I think she’s very overrated and an oaf.
Virtanen: An oaf?
Alexander: An oaf! A classical oaf.
Virtanen: Why can’t you be a Christian?
Alexander: It’s not about that, she’s a foolish person, I think. She just cares about herself. It would have been interesting if she had a great ego as Leila K, and stand up for her opinions, but you can’t respect a person who says one thing and does another. And she sings like a kid and is 40 years. It’s pathetic trying to sing as a 12-year old kid.
Virtanen: I think that’s a little bit sexy?
Alexander: Yes, you think so…
Virtanen: Martin, do you agree?
Martin: I’m not interested in her, she and her music doesn’t touch me.
Virtanen: Carola, you have to participate now, it’s going to be a bloodbath!
Martin: I feel like you are trying to make a Wrestling match here…
Virtanen: Enough about “Melodifestivalen” for now, but good luck! Warszawa pact romantic, Alexander, you love east?
Alexander: I love east, I always have!
Martin: We are east, so then we are Warszawa…
Virtanen: Is it because of a decadent underdeveloped, is it there? Or because of gay boy soldiers? Or because Kiev is a Centrum of dope trading? Or what?
Alexander: At the moment, I like Eastern Europe because they are in front of us in almost every area. They think in a young, fresh way. Music business is more modern there.
Virtanen: Give me an example!
Alexander: In the previous ten years, Eastern Europe are in the spotlight, and has become like Asia. They believe in the future. They are working hard.

1st Official BWO FanClub Meeting
Lisberg Park, Göteborg (Sweden)
Saturday, October 6th 2007

The FanClub meets BWO: Alexander, Thomas, Martin, Ann-Sofie, Marina, Annelie & Jenny

I (2nd from left) was the last weekend for the first time personally in Sweden and had the honour the Band since fanclub-foundation the first time personally apply. Besides, I had of course some questions on camp which I present to you here today with the answers:

Why called BWO their third album "Fabricator"?
We made a long list of name suggestions for the new album. As we were working on the album, the machinic sound of the record became its true characteristic. So when we came up with the name "Fabricator" it seemed like a great name for the album. "Fabricator" has two meanings that both suit the new album very well. Something fabricated is something "made up", something which has been "authored" by somebody, and we do write our own music. But a "fabricator" can also be a machine with which you can make other machines, and this ultra-machinic concept suited the new album very well too. So we chose this name and liked it very much.

Why has BWO made a so crazy video
for the ballad "The Destiny Of Love"?

We work with different directors on our videos. Sometimes the ideas for the videos come from the band, sometimes the ideas come from the director we are working with. Most of the time the video script is a mix of the two. We have come to like the more bizarre and absurd videos the most, so BWO will definitely keep working towards more and more bizarre and absurd videos. We enjoy shooting music videos very much.

Who decides the release date of videos and singles?

We always finish making the record first and then we decide on when the record should be released. We hate to work with deadlines but since we are so productive and work so hard on making new music we never really needed deadlines in the first place. So far we have released almost a new album every year. There is probably no other band in the world that works as hard and as much in the studio as BWO do.

Who decides the precise release date in the respective lands?
The dates of our releases vary from country to country. Especially as work with a lot of different record companies. Our debut album "Prototype" was actually released in Russia first, about four months ahead of the Swedish release. But nowadays it is of course more natural for us to release the records in Sweden first, due to the successes we have had in our native market. Only some of the remixes are released in other markets first.

How is the precise collaboration then in the band in the studio?
We write a lot of sketches, simple ideas for songs that are not really finished. Then we keep working on and develop the ideas we like the most. Alexander makes the sketches with Anders Hansson, Martin and Marina join the process when it is decided which sketches should be developed into full arrangements. In BWO, we don't really make a distinction between writing a song, making an arrangement, and developing a production, all three parts in making a record are intertwined for us. We keep everything at all times in our laptops.

Why do you do no duet?
We don't have any plans for any duets at the moment, although we have already been offered to perform duets with leading artists in such countries as Russia and China. If the right offer appears, we wouldn't mind making a duet. The problem is basically that a duet is often hard to perform live afterwards. Because different artists have different paths in their careers and rarely can combine each other's careers for such things as promotion or touring. But other than that, we don't see any problem with recording duets.

How exactly does a song of BWO originate then?

Alexander develops the original ideas for the BWO songs with Anders Hansson. Martin and Marina then take part in the development of the songs, both when it comes to the arrangements and the writing of the lyrics. Marina of course plays all the synthesizer solos live.

By the band-foundation you said that there were some names for the band for the choice and you have decided on "Bodies Without Organs". How were then the other names?
We did have a long list of band names which we considered when we started the band. But Bodies Without Organs soon became our favorite and we like the abbreviation BWO very much too. Many of our favorite bands such as ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) and OMD (Orchestral Maneuvers In The Dark) also had long band names that were abbreviated by their fans, just like BWO. As for the other band names suggested, we would never tell anybody what they were. It's like discussing the name of your baby and then expose which alternatives you did not use. Once the name BWO was decided, that was that.

What is now the real state on the subject "Melodifestivalen / Eurovision Song Contest 2008"?
The Eurovision Song Contest can be used as an excellent way of promoting an international career. But we don't plan any further participation at Melodifestivalen or Eurovision at the moment. We are very pleased with how "Temple Of Love" did in 2006. Right now we only concentrate on promoting our new album "Fabricator".

What do you think then about a big fan-meeting in 2008 from all three Fan-Websites together?
All the different BWO fan websites work very well and are very supportive of each other. It is good that they cover different countries and cultures where BWO are popular. We don't want to intrude too much in what the fan website designers want or decide to do. We only try to support them as well as we possibly can.

Does a "Greatest Hits"-album and a DVD of you come then soon?
A greatest hits collection and a DVD collection of our music videos are both planned for release sometime in 2008. It seems a logical next step after having released three complete albums with lots of hit singles and videos.

These were for the time being all questions ... of course I will besiege furthermore BWO with many questions and put also all your questions if you want to this.

There is a detailed report on the meeting in a "diary-form" with many photos shortly exclusiv in the Member Area.

AFTONBLADET-CHAT WITH MARTIN
Friday, August 10th 2007
Source: aftonbladet.se

Martin Rolinski says: Hello everyone, this is Martin Rolinski from BWO that’s going to answer your questions!

Petra says: Hi Martin!! I saw your new video here at Aftonbladet...Superb!! I’m longing for the new album! When will it be released?
Martin Rolinski says: Thank you very much, that’s nice to hear! It’s one of the craziest videos
we have shot. The album will be released in September and its named "Fabricator"

Johanna says: Hi Martin! I wonder if you’re going to sign the new album, as you
did last year.  If yes, where and when?

Martin Rolinski says: We have no plans yet. But we will of course consider it if people want us to. We are also going to do a fall-tour, from October to the beginning of December.

Frida says: Hip Martin. What did you think about the gig at the RixFM festival in Kalmar? You’re sweet as a doll. Hugs.
Martin Rolinski says: I heard that it was a new audience record and I am very pleased with the gig! And I am especially impressed by the Kalmar audience.

josse says: I love your new video Let It Rain, where do you get the ideas from?
Martin Rolinski says: You see, BWO consist three pretty crazy persons. These persons like to come up with really crazy things. It was a very odd experience walking around in outfits from the 16’th century and the Birkaboat.

sari says: Hip! How do you prepare yourself before a gig? Are you doing something special? I’m looking forward to Grönan tomorrow, when are you going to do the rehearsal? Hugs
Martin Rolinski says: It differs from a concert and a TV-show. At a TV-show we have to do a camera rehearsal, so you know which camera you have to look into.

3g says: Hi! Which is your best performance?
Martin Rolinski says: Well… we had a performance in Poland this weekend ahead of 350 000 people. It was one of the most awesome experiences! I haven’t had my best performance yet

Caroline says: Hi, I read about your new song "Destiny of Love", is it the same text as Secret Service’s song "Destiny of Love", or do they only have a common name?:P
Martin Rolinski says: That’s a very good question! Of course it’s a flirt "Destiny of love", but it’s a song of our own. We thought it might be a fine body line.

Julia S says: Hi Martin! Which one of BWO’s new songs do you like the most?
Martin Rolinski says: That’s a question that’s getting harder to answer. If you was me 6-7 years, I may have a more distance to it. But I am babyishly elated by "Let it rain"!

Caroline says: Martin, what does "candyguided" mean? :D
Martin Rolinski s says: It’s a pretty ambivalent word, but it refer to looking for attractions, that you’re getting a kick from finding attractions.

Kent says: Who are your idols, musically?
Martin Rolinski says: Oh, well, it’s many of them. But if I have to pick some who are ageless,
so do I have to say a combination between Freddie Mercury and Elton John. And I think that Mika is a very important injection for the pop-world of today!

Hanna says: What song are you going to perform at “Sommarkrysset” tomorrow?
"Let it rain"? It’s  very good song! :D

Martin Rolinski says: Nice to hear that! Tomorrow will be the premiere of the song on TV as we will play it then.

Frida says: Hi Martin! Can you imagine yourself “Let´s Dance”? I would’ve been voting for you like a maniac!
Martin Rolinski says: I have never thought about that! I don’t know if I have any time for that, nor hips that are movable enough.

Katta says: Howdy, how has your summer been so far?
Martin Rolinski says: Work, work, work, studies, studies, vacation, work, work.

Emma says: What have happened with your hair? It was much curlier and looked better earlier.
Martin Rolinski says: Good question. I better do some research about that.

Felicia says: BWO? Why is that your name? Who came up with the name?
Martin Rolinski says: As I mentioned earlier, BWO consists of three very twisted people. BWO stands for Bodies Without Organs. I don't know if an explanation is necessary.

Bella says: Has "Let It Rain"  anything to do with the mediocre summer this year? How is it to make a music video? Is that the seamy side of the music
industry?

Martin Rolinski says: "Let It Rain" is more about a relationship where you want it to work, but for some reasons it doesn't.  Making videos can be really funny, but you have to be very patient!

Caroline says: Hi Martin,do you enjoy meeting your fans?
Martin Rolinski says: The fans are the most important. Just having fans is a huge advantage,
and getting to meet them is the most important thing for BWO. We write our music for the
fans.

Sari says: Would you consider saving Sweden by participating in Melodifestivalen again? I would vote like a maniac! *hug*
Martin Rolinski says: Haha. We don't have any plans for that now. But I do think that what is necessary is a allround poptune that works international..

Bella says: What's it like being so huge that you are in Eastern Europe? Cause, you are, aren't you? What's the atmosphere like there?
Martin Rolinski says: People over there are in some ways more hysterical, but yet more shy.
Very polite! There's some kind of chaotic confusion that can be very amusing in proportional doses.

Caroline says: Hi Martin : ) Will there be any more concerts in Sweden this year, except for the recent one at Pride and the one in Gothenburg? It would be nice
with full-length gigs compared to what it's like at RixFm: )

Martin Rolinski says: We're going on a clubtour this autumn, which will start in the beginning
of October and continue to the beginning of December.

Stella Åkerblom says: Hi! I love your music, "Let It Rain" is one of the best songs I have ever heard! is it true that you guys know Mika? *hugs*
Martin Rolinski says: I'm glad to hear that! "Let It Rain" is a song I feel very strong about. Yes, Mika is a very good friend of us and we have met him in London. We really like his music and he has his favourites with BWO as well!

Frida says: Hi! What exactly are you studying? I don't really get that : S
Martin Rolinski says: Neither do. I'm studying to become a Master Of Science. Maybe it's
enough with that explanation.

Martinstein says: Why did you make a cover of "Save My Pride"?
Martin Rolinski says: First of all, I have always thought it's a awesome song and so does Alexander. So we tried it and really liked the result. It felt natural to do it.

Hjej says: Martin, how old are you?
Martin Rolinski says: 25.

Frida says: Hi! If you could be the best of anything in the world, what would that be?I mean, you're already the best of many things, like being goodlooking, singing and being the best, but besides that? : p  : p
Martin Rolinski says: Tennis!

Hans says: Do you write lyrics to the songs? For example to "Let It Rain"? What
does that song mean to you? I think it's awesome!

Martin Rolinski says: Yes I do. For example I have written lyrics to "Let It Rain". You try to put yourself mentally in a situation you have been through, or that your friends have been
through and then you write about how you feel about that. It can get pretty personal sometimes, which I think can be good for you. It's some kind of therapy sometimes.

Lalala says: Hi! What do you think are the differences between your records when
it comes to the "style" of them?

Martin Rolinski says: "Prototype" was more electro, "Halcyon Days" was broader and even
more of the popsound, while "Fabricator" goes back to the "Prototype" style and now we
focus even more on the songwriting.

Cornelia says: Hi! Is it fun being so famous like you are? Isn't it tough sometimes?
Martin Rolinski says: I don't think about that too much.I can put it like this:Sweden is the right country to live in if you are a celebrity.

Boromir says: If you had won Popstars, how do you think things would have turned out?
Martin Rolinski says: I don't think things would have been as great then. Back then I would
have to make a record in a haste and probably start my career with a rather worthless debut album.

Sari says: Hi! Can you imagine yourself working with music for the rest of your life? What will you say if you are offered a role in a musical? Would you like to play the good-guy or the bad-guy?*hug*
Martin Rolinski says: My philosophy is to always do things I find enjoyable.Even if it means entering the stage with a zimmer frame.I've never been interested
of the musical stage. On the other hand I have always been fascinated by acting and I write scripts in my sparetime.

Martin Rolinski says: I'd like to thank all of you for your time and your questions!Check out "Let It Rain" on Aftonbladets website and look for us at clubs during this autumn!Take care!/Martin

EXPRESSEN-INTERVIEW

"BWO continues to surprise the popworld and themselves"

BWO's cocky message before Grammisgalan.

The album sold gold and went to number one in the charts. Now 'Bodies Without Organs'
can be the big winners during the Grammisgala. "It's an acknowledgement from the
music industry just to receive the five nominations. We're satisfied with that.", says
Alexander Bard.

During 2006 "BWO" with Martin Rolinski,Marina Schiptjenko and Alexander Bard,
reached enormous success. The album "Halcyon Days" have sold way beyond the bands
wildest imaginations. Alexander Bard now says that it wasn't something they had
expected. "2006 turned into an amazing year with 'Temple Of Love' in the SongContest,
the album 'Halcyon Days' went straight to number 1 on the chart, the summer tour sold out
and our international success during the autumn. And we just thought that we should be a basementelectroband from the beginning."

During 2007 the third BWO album will be released and if everything goes as planned, the
fans will have a taste even before the summer. "We've just released a remixalbum to our
real hardcorefans called 'Halcyon Nights'. We will spend the spring writing and producing
new songs for our third album which will be out this autumn, eventually with the first
single and video

before summer.", Alexander Bard says and continues. "It's gonna be hard to repeat the
same success as the year 2006, but we will do our best during 2007 and at least we're
not gonna compromise on the thing that's most important to us, which is to write and
make really good poptunes and have fun together and with our fans. Meanwhile, we
will continue to be the most hardworking popband in Sweden."

Bodies Without Organs are nominated in the categories:
- Album Of The Year: 'Halcyon Days'
- Composer Of The Year : 'Halcyon Days' , Alexander Bard and Anders Hansson
- Producer Of The Year: 'Halcyon Days' ,Alexander Bard and Anders Hansson

CAFE.SE-INTERVIEW

Alexander Bard

The popstar, philosopher, and trot expert speaks out

Did you feel that Dagens Nyheters (A newspaper in Sweden) article about Elltllstan forced their way into your private life?
No, I have to live with that. I see the whole history as a generation clash of opinion in the journalistic union. Dagens Nyheter symbolises the older generation, it is a strong newspaper
that has its weakness at the web. They have simply missed the young readers, and have wrong writers.
You say the rhetorical of hate at Elitlistan is ironic. Explain.
Ironic, to speak plainly, is to say one thing and mean the opposite. People who say “hate is a wonderful feeling” are actually kind of warm persons. The years of Aids’ epidemic at the 80’s characterized me very much as a person. Seven of my nearest friends died. Those years, I
could only speak to old Jewish ladies who had experience of
Auschwitz. This period made me into a nihilistic. This is where my sense of black humour and rough jargon comes from. Ironic is a way of handle something very serious.
So, according to the contrary logic, the name Elit encapsulations to the society bottom?
No... Elitlistan don’t belong to the society’s top, although they have a certain power within
the pop culture and media.
The Elit are mostly ironic. Bus as always according to ironic, there is a dispute. Elitlistan are elite within non-elite. The powers still remain within the trade and industry and the parliament.
Now, a question about BWO: You are an eccentric person and like eccentric persons. Why did you recruit Martin Rolinski – a 23 years old guy from Bromma? He is a tennis player, and a university student at KTH, who doesn’t like to party?
I like KTH very much. I love mathematics, I did damn study at a trade school. Tennis... I love sports. Martin is a Polish immigrant guy. Things would have been different if he was an
ordinary upper class guy, whose daddy played the schooling. And Martin is interested in the music industry. Mentally, it is a relation where I teach Martin things about music industry, and then later he can make a career on his own.
Does Martin have an employment security? I read that he had to travel with the crew guys while you flew instead, lately in the evening?
Employment security? No, we make the decisions together. It also happens more often that Martin have a flight too. But he is studying and can bring his books at the bus.
Are there any similarities between your hobbies, trotter breeding and music industry?
It may possibly be that it’s about entertaining. I also have some DAMP, so three minutes are a good "attention span" to me. A trot racing lasts for about three minutes, and so does a pop
hit.
During your break from music you once said that “broad popularity to me is the definition of failure”.
It was back then. Now I have changed my attitude as a result of the classical 40-years crisis. Today I don’t feel like have to place my name on a map. Now I see my job as a service occupation. Good music is a way to make people’s existence a little bit better. Almost like
being a cook. With the music, I like to write lyrics that touches people. That’s why I find it
nice that the books are a little bit thinner. After all I belong to the middle class. As a middle class person, you always have to fight between broad and thin.

You call yourself a socialist. Why?
Intellectually, you can’t be a liberal. Mankind aren’t solitaire as the polar bear. Our fundamental function is to be herd animals.
How do you take responsibility for the collective?
It defends itself. But my involvement in the politics has its expression in the books. I and Jan Söderqvist are working on our third book now, a collision between neurobiology and psychoanalysis.
Your books are extremely complicated. How socialistic is it to write books that most of the people don’t understand?
It is not my job to write catchwords. I am writing philosophy books.  You can not simplify a brain surgery just because seven-year-olds have to understand it.
But you can teach brain surgery more or less complexly depending on how many you will attain.
I am not a teacher in philosophy- I am a philosopher! That makes a huge difference. A philosopher don’t teach-in, nor teach-out philosophy, the history of philosophy are supposed
to be known when you are twelve, otherwise it’s pointless being a philosopher.
You have occurred in magazines for 20 years. But you have by yourself directed the scandals, have undesired scoops.
Aha. But your reasoning is supposing that I am doing something else behind the curtains. I
am writing songs, deliver lectures and breeding trotters.
That’s it. I do have a private life,
which I am keeping secret.

Is that the reason why you are partially living in Berlin?
Maybe. I can take the metro in Berlin but not in Stockholm. There are always idiot’s here.
You confess yourself as a member of the oriental religion zoroastrism.
We are 1 200 members in Sweden. Even though the zoroastrism is a 3 700 years old
philosophy of life, it works fine in the modern society, it harangue the equableness between
the sexes and is completely ecologically.
We worship everything that exists, we don’t believe
in anything supernatural. There’s only one world. God and the universe are the same.
Mankind is a part of God.
Then mankind, differently from what you claim, a big concernment? Even a divine one?
No, there’s no observer for whom we are supposed to be a concernment. The All-father is
gone from the picture, so then life’s pointless.

But equableness and other humane values do have a concernment for you?
Absolutely, I am a pure ethicist. What you’ve done today is going to haunt you tomorrow because people have found out what you’ve done. The modern, transparent society is out and about being ethical concerning to that. I am eating a GI- sandwich instead of sugar. In sifter,
it forces confectioners to have more GI- bread and less sugar. An acting that’s not only good
for my body, also for the mankind.

Rockbjörnen-vinners says: We commit ourselfs to provide good songs. There is always lack of really good songs.
